The NetWorker Letter™
January 1, 2010

This letter was written by a networking legend who recently came out of retirement. He has been involved in networking for the last 40 years. He's had phenomenal success (23 years full-time) and dismal failure too. Recently he spent several weeks in retreat, reflection, and soul searching after his father passed away in late October 2009.

Based on his experience and knowledge these last 40 years... he made a criteria list as to what to look for in an opportunity. This list is personally based on his age (55), how long he's been involved in networking, the successes and failures, etc., etc..

#1 - Company longevity... I am too old now (55), too tired, and been at this business too long to build/promote something that is not going to be in business for the rest of my life. I must work with an established proven company that has not reached its peak nor hit its momentum phase. This is just basic common-sense... right? Well, when we're young we can afford to miss out a few times and make mistakes. But as we get older it's time to wise-up and maybe be a little more conservative and build something that will last with a company that is virtually guaranteed to last.

#2 - Product... I absolutely MUST HAVE a product that makes-a-difference... that has a serious positive impact on someone's life... a product that someone will buy even if they do not participate in the marketing plan... a product that people cannot live without... that they will buy over-and-over again... because they NEED and WANT it... to the point of not caring how much it costs. The older more established companies have been successful because of this philosophy. (My parents bought products from two networking companies for over 40 years because they loved those products.)

#3 - Good management, good owners, good capital... owners and managers that are professional business people and will NOT shove their belief system or religion down our throats. Owners and managers that make sound decisions and who do NOT have the typical networking hype/BS mentality. I don't mind owners/managers who have strong core-values and philosophies as long as they apply them "gently" to all races, creeds, belief systems, etc.. Furthermore... the owners/managers must be forward thinking, good marketers, and have a vision with no limitations. And the company must have the financial resources to handle growth as well as slow times.

#4 - Affiliate Marketing and Customer-Acquisition based marketing model... I am sick-and-tired of the MLM and network marketing B__ S___ and hype... so so tired. I want to be with a company that is focused on sales to repeat-ordering LOYAL customers and developing sales organizations that are based on sales to repeat-ordering LOYAL customers. Not only do I want this from a legal and regulatory perspective... I want it from business opportunity perspective. I am tired of the game MLMer's and networkers mime and regurgitate that tell us we have to change and be like this or that... that promote fear-of-loss, personal growth, hype, smoke, mirrors, blogging, self-promotion, this and that, read/listen to this or that, attend seminars, and on and on I could go. A real opportunity doesn't require you to be anything but who you are right NOW. I want a simple no-hype sales and marketing model focused on the PRODUCT. I would rather have a 100 distributor organization that has 100 customers each (10,000 customers)... than to have 10,000 fickled distributors who get in and leave for this or that reason. This is EXTREMELY important for creating true residual income in today's marketplace. Promoting based on "opportunity" only or money-making only... does NOT create a LOYAL repeat-ordering customer base... it creates disloyal opportunity seekers that stay involved long enough to move onto another opportunity.

#5 - Compensation Plan... I want a simple and easy to understand compensation plan (preferably a multi-tiered affiliate type plan) that pays the ordinary person well and the leader well. I want a compensation plan that promotes independence... not dependence. In fact, I prefer to have a compensation plan that is NOT the reason people get involved with the company. I don't want a compensation plan that gives the downline expectations of having a downline built for them... or being placed in a line that is already built... or offers spill-over of any kind. In many "opportunity" oriented companies most people get into the networking business for ALL the wrong reasons... and they leave for the same reasons. But if the compensation plan is designed to create and maintain LOYAL repeat-ordering customers through the "independent" efforts of affiliate customers and the company... then a true residual income that we can retire from actually becomes a reality instead of a pipe-dream.

#6 - Focus on aging and wellness... I want an opportunity that allows me to successfully market to my age group plus or minus 15 years (40-70) and focuses on age related health issues. This is also important for two other reasons... one is that it is more difficult today for a 55 year old man to recruit a 25-35 year old... and two... the number one group to market a product to for the next 10 years is going to be the almost 100 million... 40-70+ year olds who have health related issues due to aging. (The number one health issue related to aging is inflammation and pain.)

#7 - Great sponsor/upline... personally I have to have a sponsor/upline that is going to truly help build and support a group of INDEPENDENT (not dependent) sales representatives... that is actively building this business and ONLY this business... and whom I and my organization can place our faith and trust in.

#8 - Company based marketing systems and cooperative advertising... for over 20 years I've developed marketing systems, cooperative advertising, lead generation programs, sales tools, and on and on I could go... and it has helped me and my organizations grow. However, it had also been a huge expense not only to my pocket-book but its also been a tremendous drain on my time and energy. Don't get me wrong... it was worth every penney, minute, and ounce of sweat/tears. But... it also made the organization dependent on me rather than independent for themselves. What if the company was a master at developing customers and affiliates through their own cooperative advertising programs and they offered these programs to the field? And they had the best most professional sales tools, marketing systems, and training available to help everyone become independently successful?? And they sent mailings to your reps and customers on a regular basis to retain them?? Now that would be the ultimate.

There are other criteria but the ones above are the most important to me. And it would be great to find something that met all this criteria.

Well... what do they say??

Be careful what you ask for because you just might find it.
